Tim recently discovered that he had been a victim of identity theft for quite some time. Through a phone call from Qwest Wireless' fraud department, he was informed that someone had been using his Social Security number, but they were not able to verify his city/zip and date of birth. He was suggested to file a fraud alert with the credit reporting agencies and get a copy of his credit report. After doing so, Tim discovered the person had been using different permutations of his name and had racked up several civil judgements, cell phone debts, a student loan and numerous leases in his name.
Tim’s name has been changed to protect his privacy.
