Today, the three nationwide credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) will begin to provide free credit monitoring to all active-duty military members (including National Guard). While active-duty military are considered to be at high risk of identity theft, the credit bureaus have only been required to provide this service for those stationed away from their usual duty stations. This voluntary expansion brings it to all of them.
Though free, military members will still need to sign up for the service through each credit bureau’s website and certify their active-duty status.
